Before the vacation started, I have already decided to work. Looking for a short-term job was not as easy as I thought. I began to do it at the beginning of June. I did get some chances interviewing, but none of them offered me the job. I was very disappointed and getting worried as the vacation was approaching. It took me one month to be hired at a bookstore.
This was the first job that I had to face the customers. I am a shy person, so I usually would look for a job working in front of a computer. At the beginning, I only sent the resume to the companies which offered the jobs as an assistant. After a while, the vacation already started, I was getting panic about getting a job. My range grew wider. I didn’t care what kind of job it was as long as I could work to earn some money.
After I got the phone call which I was hired, I was nervous and worried about my social ability for the first two weeks. I have learned the manner and social ability by observing the colleague. Her reaction is quick. She is both a good worker at a company and a good clerk to the clients. Her manner and service is excellent. There was one thing I still don’t understand. She was not nice to me and I had no idea why she mistreated me. According to our director, the colleague thought I forgot what she taught me. She had to remind me many times. I was not helpful and caused more troubles…etc. Her bad attitude toward me made me miserable. I kept putting up with it until I could not stand for it and decide to tell the director. My director told my colleague that you needed to give her more time to learn. You have been working here for about 4 years. Be patient and nice to a new coworker. After they talked, the colleague’s attitude still didn’t change and got even worse. Her disdainful facial expressions and words hurt my self-esteem. That did make me doubt about my working ability. On the weekday, I always felt like being in Hell. For the first time, I could not wait for the new semester. I wished the date came quickly.
This summer vacation is unforgettable for me. I was happy when my director approved my working ability by raising my hourly wages. I am grateful for the considerate director and a quite different job experience. (422)
